MINERÍA la mejor puerta de acceso al sector minero EDICIÓN 568 / ENERO 2025 60 Innovación Abstract An energy system powered by clean energy technologies is fundamentally different from one powered by traditional hydrocarbon resources. Solar photovoltaic (PV) plants, wind farms and electric vehicles (EVs) typically require more minerals for their construction than their fossil fuel-based counterparts. A typical electric car requires six times more mineral inputs than a conventional car and an onshore wind plant requires nine times more mineral resources than a gas-fired power plant. Since 2010, the average amount of minerals needed for a new unit of power generation capacity has increased by 50% as the share of renewables in new investments has increased. To achieve net-zero emissions globally by 2050 (as per the Paris Agreement (2015) goals of "climate stabilization at a global temperature increase of well below 2°C"), the industry will need six times more mineral inputs by 2040. The only way for the mining sector to meet global climate demand and goals is through intentional, cross-sector collaboration and significant TRANSFORMACIÓN DIGITAL: DRIVER EN LA TRANSICIÓN HACIA LA ENERGÍA LIMPIA – ENFOQUE EN DESAFÍOS EN LA MINERÍA
