Algunos intentan explicar que seres extraterrestres serían los autores –de la elaboración y supervisión– de estas imágenes. Asimismo, que las largas líneas paralelas y los trazos rectos, existentes en el Palpa y en Nasca, serían las pistas de aterrizaje de las naves de estos seres extraterrestres. Los ufólogos (ufología, de UFO, un acrónimo del idioma inglés: unidentified flying objet, objeto volador no identificado, ovni), que estudian la supuesta existencia de los ovnis, pretenden interpretar que el citado geoglifo, es un ovni despegando, tal vez en descenso. Para los ufólogos, debió existir, sin precisar cuándo, un contacto de seres extraterrestres con los habitantes prehispánicos de Palpa, sin embargo, no existe ninguna evidencia al respecto. Otras interpretaciones menos alucinantes sobre estas imágenes, indican que pudieran ser un anuario astronómico, que servía para regular los periodos agrícolas. Asimismo, que los geoglifos serían altares donde se depositaban ofrendas dedicadas a sus deidades, y otros indican que el lugar donde se encuentran estos geoglifos era para los bailes o danzas de la población. Estos enormes geoglifos fueron diseñados tal vez para que puedan ser observados por los seres extraordinarios que residan en las alturas y que tenían la facultad de otorgar lo deseado por los pobladores prehispánicos del lugar, probablemente lo más necesario en el lugar, era el recurso hídrico para cumplir con sus actividades socioeconómicas. El recurso hídrico era muy necesario para la alimentación, la agricultura, la cerámica, la textilería y otros, también en la actividad minera, especialmente, la aurífera. El geoglifo hoy denominado tumi podría representar, desde el punto de vista minero, un canal utilizado para disgregar con el recurso hídrico, el material aurífero de la zona. Este geoglifo está ubicado a unos 4.0 km de distancia, con dirección noroeste de la ciudad de Palpa y de esta ciudad a unos 5.0 km con dirección oeste, se encuentran unos molinos de piedrawn design, using either light- or dark-colored stones to produce a color contrast with the reddishbrown terrain. Among these geoglyphs, there is one of great interest, surrounded by numerous unanswered questions, which has been named the tumi due to its resemblance to a pre-Hispanic ceremonial knife. This tumi instrument has an elongated handle, often decorated, and a semicircular or crescent-shaped cutting blade. It could be made of gold, silver, or copper and was apparently used in magicalreligious ceremonies. It is even suggested, though not confirmed, that the Paracas may have used it for cranial trepanations in their society. Archaeologists have only found cutting instruments made of obsidian for cranial trepanations, but no tools resembling the tumi. Others suggest that the geoglyph may actually represent a tupu, a type of pin or clasp. These were used to fasten or secure garments or mantles, particularly by pre-Hispanic women. They were crafted from gold, silver, or copper, and the Paracas textiles as well as Nasca ceramics frequently depict this artifact. This pre-Hispanic clasp, or tupu, consists of a long, slender piece that ends in a disk or a concave head, but it is quite different from the tumi. Some interpret the geoglyph as an orange releasing its juice; however, such a fruit was unknown to the pre-Hispanic societies of the region. At present, there exists a wide variety of interpretations regarding the enigmatic images of the petroglyphs and geoglyphs located in Palpa. Some suggest that extraterrestrial beings were responsible for their creation and supervision. Similarly, the long parallel lines and straight traces found in both Palpa and Nasca have been explained by some as landing strips for the spacecraft of these extraterrestrial beings. Ufologists (ufology, from UFO, an acronym for unidentified flying object), who study the supposed existence of UFOs, claim that the aforementioned geoglyph is a UFO taking off, perhaps descending.
