MINERÍA la mejor puerta de acceso al sector minero EDICIÓN 576 / SEPTIEMBRE 2025 31 TOGETHER FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES AND WELL-BEING FOR ALL T his week, Peru, and especially the city of Arequipa, will become the global center of mining with the 37th edition of PERUMIN, the region’s leading mining convention and one of the most important in the world, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP). In this edition, chaired by Jimena Sologuren and held under the theme “Together for More Opportunities and Well-Being for All,” a forward-looking vision will highlight both the global context and the country’s vast mineral wealth, an alignment of factors with great potential to generate resources that, if properly invested, could lead Peru to developed-nation status while decisively narrowing social gaps and reducing poverty. It is likewise an opportunity to lay the foundations for comprehensive progress in a sustainable way, with toplevel environmental, social, and governance practices, and to make a concrete contribution to the fight against climate change, which threatens humanity. In this context, this edition of PERUMIN is placing particular emphasis on youth participation, recognizing that young people will guide the nation’s future. The goal is for them to learn about the latest scientific advances related to mining, best practices in the industry, and the outlook for demand for Peru’s mineral, and how all of this can benefit everyone. For the first time, the event will feature an Academic Promenade and Academic Gathering to foster interaction and knowledge exchange among higher-education institutions, the mining community, and society at large. This space will promote collaborative and applied research, talent development, and the dissemination of scientific and technological findings. Homar Lozano Director The Director Likewise, programs such as the Líderes Estudiantiles (Student Leaders) Program, the PERUMIN Scholarship, the Encuentro de Jóvenes (Youth Meeting) at PERUMIN, the National School Mining Award, and the Virtual Mine will enable emerging professionals and students to enrich the knowledge gained in the classroom and to become familiar with the current state of the mining industry and the opportunities it offers the country.
