There is evidence of reflections and planned actions aimed at achieving an effective technical closure; however, gaps remain in the integration of social aspects. This paper aims to propose an integrated model for managing mine closure that facilitates the economic, social, cultural, and environmental transition of local inhabitants in a post-mining scenario. To this end, a benchmarking of closure experiences and a comparative analysis of national regulations in Peru and Chile were carried out, along with a review of international standards. In addition, an instrument was developed to identify critical information for the design of a Comprehensive Closure Plan and a tool to assess the social impacts and opportunities associated with mine closure.
