A significant gap was identified between column test results, which achieved recoveries of up to 80%, and actual pad performance, which was limited to 68%. The problem was further aggravated by the presence of impermeable zones and ponding. Although preliminary measures were implemented, such as blending competent material with fine material, these actions only mitigated ponding and did not improve recovery.
