Proper management of environmental impacts is important to ensure obtaining a license to operate and to ensure the sustainability of the mining business in the long term. The objective of this paper is to present different techniques, technologies, simulation software and control/monitoring tools that when properly implemented, allow minimizing the impacts generated by blasting in nearby communities, for which a study in an open pit mine in Brazil will be presented. An adequate management model, combined with good operational practices and the use of new technologies, enables a safe operation without incidents with the communities. Thus building trust with neighboring communities, maintaining the license to operate and helping mining to mobilize vital resources fundamental to progress in a sustainable manner.
